Fred Saunders takes pride in his role as an advocate for ranchers in Central Montana. As an owner and operator of Heart S Livestock Marketing, he revels in his position, emphasizing the quality of cattle raised here in the heart of Montana and the integrity and experience of the ranchers. As an agent for Northern Livestock Video as well as a private treaty marketer, Fred knows cattle and knows that Central Montana produces quality animals through tradition on family operations.
But he didn’t start out in marketing or in Montana for that matter. Born and raised in Wyoming at the base of Snow King mountain, Fred spent the majority of his time on skis or horseback helping his family operate the Jackson Rodeo. When his family leased a ranch near Bondurant he expanded his ranching resume to include cow/calf and yearling operations. After graduation, Fred worked on a variety of ranches eventually taking a herdsman position at the N Bar Ranch near Grass Range, MT, placing him in Central Montana to stay.
In 1998, Fred along with his wife Jennifer purchased some ground east of Grass Range and built a donor center. This space allowed them to expand their genetics business, harvesting embryos from livestock owned by purebred breeders across the state of Montana. As a pioneer of this technology in Central Montana, Fred and his cattle business skills are revered and are in high demand. The Saunders’ are most excited about being involved in cattle marketing and the new markets they get to explore- especially foreign and niche markets.
